Ironworkers Local 24 Union - Joining Procedure:
Gather up the following 3 items:
1. Birth Certificate
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. Driver’s License
Take the above three items and go to either one of the two below locations:
Local 24 Union Hall Local 24 Apprenticeship Training Center
501 W. 4th Ave 5575 Tejon St.
Denver, CO 80223 Denver, CO 80221
(303)-623-5386 (303)-296-6626
(303)-808-8887 Mark Calkins Cell (719)-557-2545 Joe Mulready Cell
Once there, fill out the application to join the union. If you have any iron working experience and you can prove it with previous year’s W-2 from iron working companies, you can possibly skip some portion of the apprenticeship program. If you have no iron working experience, you will need to be accepted into the apprenticeship program.
The program is 3 years long and requires working for a union contractor while attending classes
Additional requirements of the union:
1. A drug-free work environment at all times (there will be an initial drug test to join and random tests throughout)
2. Union Dues. Dues are payable by each employee monthly directly to the union. This allows the union to fight for all employees collectively. By being a member of the union you get better wages, better benefits, better working conditions, but it takes a bit of money from each member to keep the lights on and that’s what the dues are for.
3. Pre-employment physical. This is required to ensure that you are physically capable of doing the work that is required of you.
As a member of the union or the apprenticeship program, you are eligible to work for the many union contractors around the state, most notably, of course, Total Welding, Inc. – Colorado's Premier Erector.
